Winery description
Manuel Vázquez Losada is a recent winery, created in 2019 and located in the Iglesia neighborhood, belonging to Castrelo do Val. This young viticulturist has utilised the family inheritance to transform his winery, into a point of reference, for the wine he makes with his own grapes.
The small family winery of his grandparents and that his father later transferred to him, was adapted with the necessary means to produce white and red wines, resulting from here a wine of its own, of identity and quality.
It currently has 3 hectares in production, spread over several plots near the winery; The most important being the Seara farm with 1.5 Ha, half of the land planted with Mencía grapes and the other half with Godello grapes. Although Manuel has started his career in the Covid-19 era, his project for the not too distant future, is to be able to reach 5 or 6 Ha.
At this time it has a limited production of white, expressive and higher quality wines. But he is counting on putting a red wine on the market that he already started making in 2020, failing to obtain the desired result, so he preferred to discontinue it and try more luck next year.
Although his predecessors produced wine for self-consumption and to supply the village bar they ran, Manuel has managed to bottle 6,300 bottles of his Fanrela wine in his first harvest.
The vineyard work is done manually, without herbicides. Passing only the tractor to work the land and thus obtain unique and different wines with their own identity.
With an exhaustive control of the temperature throughout the maceration phase, it ensures that the anticipated good results are obtained and thus be able to promote a quality product.
This winemaker is personally in charge of the winemaking and almost all the work and care that the vineyard requires, although in times of greater workload he usually asks the family for help. As the vineyard area increases, he will think of other solutions for these jobs.
