Winery description
In 1989, almost at the same time as D.O. Rías Baixas was founded, Jose Antonio Trigo Sineiro founded the Montesacro winery, with the sole intention of seeking tranquility in the countryside. Although it was a pioneer winery in the production of albariños from the D.O Rías Baixas, its business career began as a seafood intermediary.
Its name comes from the Marquis of Monte Sacro from Cambados, because the street where they lived was called that.
Without forgetting its philosophy and proximity, it has opted for the introduction of the most modern oenological processes and for an innovative direction. Montesacro is currently inspired by the security of the quality of its products and by a young team with an international vocation. Although they bet on modernity, they do not forget tradition. Your wine only contains sulphites (so it doesn't oxidise).
Montesacro is a family winery with a production of 20,000 litres and has 15 hectares of vineyards that it cultivates to make 100% Albariño. The winery itself is surrounded by one of the best vineyards available. For this reason, from the window of the tasting room (with a capacity for 100 people) you can see a large part of the winery's vineyards.
They maintain the same steps as a technologically improved artisan production process. In the months before the harvest, they individually monitor the land and wait for the grapes to reach an optimal point of maturity, providing them with high levels of sugar and low levels of acidity. In vintages they clarify and filter the must to obtain a nectar without impurities for fermentation, which is where the personality of their wines is born, characterised by a meticulously controlled cold fermentation and resulting in a robust wine, with high alcohol content and perfectly assembled acidity.
Currently the person in charge of the winery is Nieves Trigo (José Antonio's daughter) and in 2017 he has a different, risky and daring idea. This is where WOMAN (a wine tribute to women) was born.
The idea of creating this wine arose when Nieves had her son admitted to hospital and every day she saw many women accompanying their children, in the Leukemia plant. They were women fighters, with a lot of strength and who always looked forward, that's why Woman was created for all those fighting women who never give up.
