Winery description

Vía Arxéntea is located in the town of Vilaza, belonging to the municipality of Monterrei. It is a modern winery, which has its own bottling plant; founded in 2007, although with a family tradition.

It was launched on the market for the first time in 2008 with its white wine “Vía Arxéntea”. The wine owes its name to one of the routes on the Camino de Santiago, the so-called “Ruta de la Plata” (The Silver Way), which passes through Monterrei.

Manuel, the owner, began his journey with 2 hectares (Ha) of land and in 2020 he already had a total of 6Ha distributed in 20 plots, producing about 10,000 litres of wine per year.

The entire vineyard is distributed on a trellis, although 60% of the plots are on the hillside and the remaining 40% are flat. By having different orientations they ensure that the grapes have different ripening times and therefore the harvest varies according to the plot. They are high quality vineyards and 100% of the grapes are their own.

The workers of the winery are in charge of the green and clear pruning of the bunches for a better quality of the wine. Manuel's idea is to make a high quality wine in small production, taking care of the production and cultivation of the vine as much as possible, making authentic signature wines.

80% of the harvest is to make white wine, its varietals being Godello and Treixadura, while the remaining 20% is red grapes of the Mencía variety.

The soils of its vineyards are mainly clayey and with some granite-sandy areas. In addition, during the ripening season of the grape there are considerable thermal fluctuations between day and night, which can be up to 30ºC, due to the climate.

Despite its short history, the wines from this winery have received different recognitions in prestigious wine forums and high scores in various specialised publications.

    Some of his awards are:

    • Best white wine from the D.O. Monterrei in the contest "Distinctions Gallaecia 2021" carried out by the Sommeliers Association of Galicia
