Winery description

    O Cotarelo is a small winery with top-quality installations and vineyards that are more than 60 years old.

    Both the winery and the vineyards were inactive for more than 4 years. Until Benigno decided to recover them and carry out the entire process of making wine by setting up his own winery. This young viticulturist had been working in a vineyard for 10 years and knew very well how this world worked.

    The harvest is only from their own grapes and done in an artisanal way, always selecting the best grapes to make its limited edition wines.

    In total it has 2.5 hectares divided into several plots. Some near the winery (“Nosa Viña”, “Regueiras”,…) and others in other municipalities (“Campo Redondo”, “O Carballo”,…), but all within the DO Ribeiro area.

    Benny has reduced all pesticides to a minimum and is thinking of going organic.

    The "cork" used in the bottles is made from recycled sugar cane to ensure that it is free of the chemical TCA.

    Its first vintage was born in 2018, “O Cotarelo Blanco”, made from native castes from Ribeiro, Treixadura, Godello, Loureira and Albariño; for the latest vintage they achieved a production of 15,000 bottles. And, of “O Cotarelo Tinto”, made with Sousón and Brancellao, it achieved a production of 4,000 bottles for its latest vintage.

    Shortly,Benny will launch two new wines on the market: “Viña NeyDa”, a tribute to his sons Nerea and Dani .; and, “O Cotarelo Barrica”,originating from a risky but innovative idea. It will be a Limited Edition wine with an approximate production of about 600 bottles and it will be the first 100% Ribeiro Albariño, aged in French oak barrels on its own lees.

    Quality is present at all times, both in the work in the field and in the production process carried out in the winery. O Cotarelo wines are the result of a job well done from the origin of the land to the barrel.
